Your twenties aren't easy

A little disclaimer from me to you: your twenties aren't easy.

You may not find your forever love or maybe you will and then find a different one a few months later. You may not find your dream job or maybe you will but it might not be what you expect. Being in your twenties heck, being human is all about adapting to what's around you. It's about finding as much peace and happiness where you are or taking the time to find somewhere you love more. You may not have everything figured out while you're young. In all honesty, you probably won't, but that's okay.

Social media has created a narrative where everyone sees the world through rose-coloured glasses. Now, I love some pink vision as much as the next person but, it's important to remember a couple of things especially while being young in the age of social media when it comes to travelling.

Very rarely are you going to see the bad parts.

Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, or whatever media you're choosing; you'll rarely see everything behind the scenes. Influencers, family, friends, everyone really, works hard to show off experiences and pictures of the beautiful. If you have a trip and it wasn't exactly as you thought; maybe the museum was closed for renovation or there was a leak in the roof where you stayed, those worse moments aren’t what usually ends up on your feed.

When I went to Paris (photo on the left) the whole city was under protest but that didn’t stop me from having fun or taking pretty pictures!

No trip or day will likely be 100% positive and I think that's something important to remember. I mean, ever since needing to take an emergency flight home all I've been thinking is when will my next opportunity be to travel? But then life hits. I've been recovering from Hepatitis A (get your vaccines updated before your next journey everyone) and now I'm recovering from my wisdom teeth surgery so I'm having to spend a bit more time at home than I intended. But, that's okay!

It's rarely as easy as it looks.

Whether you work full time or freelance, maybe you're a student or any combination, it's rare people talk about the money invested into travelling. In your twenties, you're not really meant to have thousands saved in your bank account. This is the time when most people are just getting out of school and figuring out their lives and their careers. Every day I think about how much opportunity there could be for me to change up my entire life in the future. I could go back to school and get my master’s, I could move across the world, and I as well as you, can do so many things if they're really important.

That being said, it's not always that easy. I'm really blessed to have the job I do. I'm able to travel while working and since my job is remote I've been trying to take as much advantage of that as I can. I also have really low costs. Since I'm staying places pretty inconsistently (a bulk of my family and my partner who I often visit live far away from me,) so for the past few months I haven't been paying for a house or an apartment to live at. If I was, however, a lot of my funds would need to go there and away from travels - and that's okay!

Life is all about balance and doing the best you can when you're able.

No one is perfect and no one path is right or wrong for you. If travelling is something that's important but you have other priorities right now, there is nothing wrong with travelling later. Maybe you'll travel with your family, or solo travel through Asia in your 50s. Don't put pressure on yourself now. There's always time to spend later.

All in all, no two people's life paths are the same. If buying a house is what's important or saving for a wedding, that's what's important. Maybe you have student loans to pay off and you want to prioritize that, absolutely not a bad choice. You will make so many choices in this world and all that matters is that you're trying to make the calls that are best for you and no one else. Not your cousin who keeps posting about her trip to Bali, not your friend who seems to vacation in Miami every weekend, but truly what matters to you. There's always more time to change your mind.

Being young isn’t always easy, try not to put pressure on yourself because you’re trying the best you can do.
